Spring Time

Well we are now well into spring and memories of the snow and cold have faded away we can look forward to some nicer weather and longer days making our life a little bit easier and a lot more pleasant.

We can build any size extension or sun room, or we could alter the existing space you have making two small rooms into one large room.

Our mascots Tilly & Ilah are all dressed up for the Royal Wedding. Even the rain didn't stop us having a BBQ and this photo even made it on the local BBC news that night along with other photos of the festivities.

Re-felted a flat roof and re-slated the main roof to this house at Stakeford.

Our Brickies made great work in repairing this wall that had been knocked down by a car.

Re-boarded and re-felted this garage and extension flat roof in Darras Hall as well as replacing 3 windows

White Out!!!

What a way to end the last few weeks at work before our two week Christmas Holidays.

Having to put up with the snow this last two weeks has been an absolute nightmare.

Lost days at work and difficult conditions have meant not being able to carry out as much work as we would like while on the other hand being inundated with customers needing estimates for the damage the snow has caused to their property!

I must thank all the Roofers, Mark, Jonny, Steve & Ross and the Window Fitters Mark, Steve, Stu and Steve for their efforts in working out in the cold and these afwul conditions, thank you.

Here you can see the Roofers clearing the drive and pathway of snow to make it safer to walk and work in.

Here the Roofers are clearing away the snow from the flat roof and slate roofs joining on to it.

The snow was 15 inches deep at our yard and the vans couldn't get anywhere near so I hired a digger to clear it away.

What a Cold Week!

Just finishing GRP roof at Hazon this week, very old roofs had to use all of skills to re-bed ridge tiles and replace lead valley.

Wood grain fascias, guttering and cladding at Amble looks good now finished.

Started Roofline at Morpeth this week, replacing windows next week then GRP flat roofing system to garage and replacing flat porch roof to pitched and tiled roof.

Transformed a flat living room window in Stobswood into this stunning wood grain on white bow window with new French doors at the rear.

Cloudy But Dry, That'll Do Nicely!

Alnwick first port of call for the roofers this week for a Topseal GRP flat roof. Forcast cloudy but dry this week so hoping it will last for a few weeks more!

Next in line for the GRP Secialists is this Dormer roof in Wideopen where access is awkward and a scaffold is required not only for safety but to get over the carport as well!

Roof all boarded and trimmed now just cleaning down in preparation for resin and matting.

The Window team is in Amble replacing fascias and gutters to a bungalow in woodgrain plastic fascias and soffits and brown gutters and down-pipes taking off all the old timber fascias.

GRP Flat Roofing & Conservatory Roofs

Replacing conservatory roof for a customer at Blyth this week as original roof was flat and leaking badly so we designed and fitted this Hip-backed Edwardian L-shaped roof.

We also replaced her garage roof with a Topseal GRP roof finished in grey which joins onto the conservatory. Our customer was absolutely delighted with not only the high standard and quality of the work we have done for her she thought all the lads working there were top class too.

All of the electrics are now first fixed and here we see Ian our plasterer making a start on the conservatory at Stobswood.

All the glass is installed even the roof is glass and is looking great

Fish & Chips Friday!

Started fixing the frames and roof today at the conservatory at Stobswood.

The weather held off very nicely until lunch time today but unfortunatley the rain arrived the same time as the fish and chips did, so as I take these photos everyone in the vans chomping away enjoying the finest fare from the Widdy Chippy!

As you can see here the roofers have stripped back some roof tiles and have started trying in the first section of lead flashing into the box gutter but left in a hurry when the chips turned up so as not to get cold.

The replacement curved double-glazed units arrived today so straight up to Beadnell to finish the job!

Robin of Pegswood

It was nice to see "Robin of Pegswood" back in place after a good few months away being made safe and has now got lights on so he can be seen from afar at night.

Here we see Mrs Ellis from Ashington admiring her new Topseal GRP Flat Roof we installed for her today including new plastic fascia and guttering. Mrs Ellis was thrilled with the work and how clean and tidy we left the job.

Made good use of the company helicopter today to get this photo!

GRP Roofing & Windows

TOPSEAL GRP ROOFING at Longbenton today fixing all the pre-formed trims after fixing Sterling OSB3 roof boards.

Ross and Steve teamed up well yesterday to install GRP roof to bay window at Ashington managing to finish a job despite the weather.
I'm very pleased with their determination and initiative to get the job done and the fantastic job they did.

Here we see two teams working together on a multi leveled roof. Mark & Jonny replaced the fascias and guttering yesterday and fingers crossed the weather holds up long enough to finish the job without having to cover it with tarpaulins!

Here the Window company is at Shilbottle replacing 10 windows with wood grain on white uPVC double-glazed windows.

Roofline & Arched French Doors

The weather kept off for a short while today but the lads working at Kelso got it first at about 11-15 this morning. First time we have fitted new fascias and guttering to caravan!

After leaving Kelso the rain followed me to Beadnell where we were putting in arched French doors and as you can see the glass going in just as I arrived and 2 minutes later so did the rain.

Well, here we are on St. George's day with the winter well behind us now and the first of many St. George's day holidays which I have introduced to everyone that works at Derek Lyall's this year to celebrate the fact that we are proud of our Heritage, proud to be English and are glad to share the same enthusiasm as the Scottish and Welsh do for their Patron Saints.

Personaly enjoyed a fab day out with my wife Linda in Morpeth having a nice meal and bottle of wine then just chilling out for the rest of the day at home soaking up the atmosphere with flags proudly flying outside of our house.

I hope you have all have had a good St. George's day and look forward to the next blog.

Well dispite the snow the solar thermal panels were fitted today and they look great!

Here you see the base plate being fixed.

These are the panels fitted on top of the base plate and the tiles fitted around them.

The panels are integrated which means tiles have come off and the panels take on a more flush appearance thats easier on the eye.

Scaffold is required to carry out the work safely.

This hosehold can now enjoy many years of free hot water while helping to save the planet at the same time.

These pictures are from a house in Cramlington where we have just finished replacing the Roofline to the main house, extension and garage. We have also just installed the GRP Flat Roofing System to the garage.

A few years ago we replaced the windows and doors to the main house, a year or so later we replaced the porch windows and door and also transformed the flat roof into a tiled pitched roof.

The weather is still making things difficult for us be we try our best to carry on and do what we can so a big thank you from me to all here at Derek Lyalls for enduring the cold and wet winter days we are having.

What a shame about the weather as it rained all day but hats off to everyone for getting the Rooline done at Wooler and getting the job finished!.

Picked up the stone for the extension at Longhoughton and no sign of snow at the Ladycross Quarry near Hexham so a straight forward pickup.

Buiding inspector passed foundations today so laying concrete tomorrow also picking up stone as long as snow has cleared from Ladycross Quarry!

Been a good week so far for GRP flat roofing, Mark and Jonny putting on grey Topcoat at Milburn Road today.

Well the snow has come and gone, come back again and is on its way out for good I hope!.

Starting a new extension on Wednesday at Longhoughton so myself and Dave Waller called at job to do some final measuring and then went to Ladycross Quarry near Hexham to sort out the stone.

The nearer we got the heavier the snow started to fall taking the 4 wheel drive was a good decision as you can see by this photo.

The roofers have managed another GRP flat roof working around the weather the last couple of days and as everyone has now been trained and have been down to Harrogate on the course and can’t wait to get stuck in and get the backlog down as soon as possible.

Making good progress with the blog and website.
Dave, Steve & Mark are down in Harrogate for the next two days on the TOPSEAL GRP flat Roofing course and no doubt having a few drinks tonight in the swish hotel there staying in.
The Roofers have done well this week thanks to their hard work and the reasonable weather we've had for this time of year.
The Window & Roofline side of things has pretty much caught up thanks again to the weather and effort of everyone.
Anyone wanting Windows, Doors or Roofline won't have to wait long if they take advantage now before the rush this Easter so ring now for a quote!

Been learning more about bloggs today and still messing on trying to see what can and can't be done.

I am putting some videos and photos together of all the things we do to replace the temporary experimental ones we have at the moment and with all the different options there are.

Hi everyone, First things first just to let everyone know that read our blog yesterday that Tilly is feeling a lot better today after hurting herself jumping over a fence.

Well there's another week over and the weather has been so-so but we've managed to make good progress with getting our work carried out although it would be nice to have a few weeks of dry weather and for it to be a little warmer.

I'm still fiddling with putting little sample videos and photos in various places so be prepared for some chopping and changing of things.

I want to start a little handy tips spot for any jobs around the house that may need maintenance or even a small building project. Also I will be putting in handy numbers or links to any other trades that may be of interest so watch this space.

Made a lot of friends in facebook today I hope I get to know all of them well in the coming weeks and months.
Another good day weather wise as far as getting work done but very cold.
I take my hat off to everyone who has had to work out in the cold today as I was only out for a few minutes and was like an icicle.
Tilly our labradoodle (the wonder dog) hurt herself this afternoon jumping over a small fence so she's very clingy with me tonight as I am alpha male who looks after things when theres trouble.

Cold and a bit damp today but everyone just got on with it and did the best they could considering the weather.
Steve and Ross away on the GRP flat roofing course Thursday and Friday and by the sound of things have laid down a challenge saying they will get the best marks for the course and want to be kings of GRP.

At last, a good day weather wise and good progress has been made with the Roofing side of the business so we should be making a dint in the backlog of flat roofing & GRP work.
The uPVC side of the business is running smoothly so anyone wanting windows, doors and roofline don't have to wait more than 2 weeks or so to get their work done so ring in now to take advantage of the lull before it gets really busy.

Hello and welcome to the first blog from Derek Lyalls.

Because this is our first blog we are testing things out, seeing how things work so as time goes by we should be able to make improvements but most of all keep you informed on whats going on.

Lets hope the weather improves as we have a backlog of roofing work including GRP & Felt roofing work and gutters.

We have made it a priority to where possible to do temporary repairs to stop roofs leaking until we get back to do the proper job.
